After auditioning for the X Factor in 2009 performing ‘Superstition' by Stevie Wonder and receiving the "easiest yes" Simon Cowell has ever given, Olly Murs went from strength to strength to reach the final and duet with his new "best mate" Robbie Williams.  Despite coming runner-up on the Show to Joe McElderry, Olly was soon offered his own record deal, writing his own songs and enjoying solo chart success.

His first single ‘Please Don't Let Me Go' went straight to No.1 in the UK charts and Olly returns to the X Factor stage on Sunday 21 November to perform his second single ‘Thinking of Me' which will be released the same day.   The debut album ‘Olly Murs' is out now.

Imelda May

Imelda May

Events: 2

“The problem with an artist like Imelda May is that she’s so good, it makes a critical review almost impossible to write; her performance is flawless.” Clash Magazine

Imelda May, born in Dublin and raised in the Liberties, may be an unknown name to some, but to many she is already a superstar. She is unmistakable both in her music (a fusion of  surf guitars, blues and rockabilly that wouldn’t be out of place in a David Lynch film)  and her style, with a solitary curl and shock of blonde in her jet black hair. In Ireland, her debut album  ‘Love Tattoo’, which she recorded and released on her own label, has gone Triple Platinum. She has shared a stage with U2, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Van Morrison, Scissor Sisters, Lionel Richie and, most recently, the first lady of rockabilly, Wanda Jackson. And now, with the release of her new album “Mayhem”, she is about to go stellar

Being the youngest of five siblings , Imelda was the most susceptible to the various influences from her older brothers and sisters, which she could hear constantly through the walls of their two bedroom house. There was folk, the obligatory chart pop, and then there was Elvis. “My brother was a mad Elvis fan, and I found a tape in his room with Elvis, Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent. I thought the music was fantastic.”

By the age of nine Imelda had fallen in love with rockabilly and the blues – the only kid in her class who wasn’t into Wet Wet Wet.  Singing along to rock n roll from an early age, her tastes began to develop and deepen, first with Elmore James and then - “ I heard Billie Holiday, and that blew my mind.”   After a year of art college she dropped out, deciding she would rather sing for a living.  At that point, her professional experience was confined to having sung on an ad for Findus Fish Fingers at 14.  “A girl in The Liberties was in the music business and she got me this ad, where I sang, ‘Betcha never put your finger on a crunchier crumb!’  I got £40 for it!” She quickly found work singing with the swing troupe Blue Harlem and rock n roller Mike Sanchez and had an interesting spell of singing in burlesque clubs: “I’d sing while the other girls were onstage.  One of them used to take an angle grinder to her crotch and would produce a shower of sparks.  One day a spark flew down my throat when I was singing!”

Imelda began singing in clubs when she was 16 years old and had the honour of being occasionally barred from her own shows at Dublin’s Bruxelles club for being underage.  “I was getting tips from the best musicians in Dublin.  One of them said, ‘Your voice is great, but it needs to roughen.” It was around this time, when driving a tearful Imelda to a gig, that her father asked her “Is your heart broken? Excellent. Now you can sing the blues”.  Remembered by Imelda as a turning point in her life, from then on her voice developed into the sultry, rich and unique tone you hear today.

By 2006 she was itching to go solo, and formed her own band.  “We started out a bit jazzier, but it needed balls and roughing up which it got.”  Her debut album, “Love Tattoo” was soon released and started to get noticed. Catching the attention of Jools Holland in 2008 she supported him on tour which led to him requesting her to appear on Later.  Here she performed to an audience that included Jeff Beck, Elbow and Roots Manuva and afterwards Beck made a point of telling Holland that he was only there to see Imelda.  In 2009, Imelda knocked Bruce Springsteen off No. 1 to become the first female Irish artist to top the Irish album charts since Mary Black nearly 20 years ago. She  then went on to win Female Artist of the Year at the Irish Meteor Awards. Despite album success, Imelda continued to tour, playing to over 400 000 people in 8 countries across Europe and the US – including, most recently a US tour with Jamie Cullum.

Imelda has not only caught people’s attention musically, her striking style and unmistakable cool but quirky 50s look has led her to grace the front cover of the Irish Sunday Times Style, Roberto Cavalli flew her out to perform at his private party during the Milan Fashion Week.

2010  got off to an auspicious start when Imelda accepted an offer from Jeff Beck to perform with him at the Grammys. This was followed in April by a two night support slot in London with one of her idols, Wanda Jackson.

Her new album ‘Mayhem’ sees Imelda continue to develop her uniquely modern fusion of classic musical genres.   The record not only showcases her exceptional songwriting ability, but also displays some  more disparate influences, with first single Psycho seeing Imelda channel the spirit of early PJ Harvey, whilst the heartbreakingly poignant “Kentish Town Waltz” conjures an image of Chrissie Hynde at her most reflective.

This year Imelda has performed at Glastonbury, T In The Park, Womad and Ireland’s Electric Picnic as well as touring the UK during May and September. She also has three songs – including the legendary “Johnny Gotta Boom Boom” and forthcoming single “Mayhem” featuring on the soundtrack to the new “Wild Target” film starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt and Rupert Everett.

When Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally returned home to their hometown of Baltimore last winter, they were worn out from touring and travel. But deep inside them hot energies were incubating, ideas they had been whispering back and forth in the wake of their sophomore full-length, 2008's "Devotion". By spring they began handing themselves over completely to these impulses, holing themselves up and exchanging ideas in a new, secluded practice space for dangerously long periods of time. As the songs that would become "Teen Dream" began to live, breathe and take shape, the duo were compelled to leave much of their personal lives behind them. "We were forced to let go of people and things we were holding onto as individuals" Legrand muses. "We were dropped into a wilderness, but we had more clarity than we've ever had before".

Still driven to avoid distraction, the two marched further into isolation, deciding to bottle all those wild visions away from home. They packed up their lives and settled into a converted church in upstate New York with producer Chris Coady. For a month they continued the birthing process, sweating and pushing out sounds inside a cocoon of their very own weaving. They chased down songs and dark rushes, the creative telepathy that Scally and Legrand share together taking a strangely physical hold. "There's a different level of intimacy, and physicality, on Teen Dream", Legrand explains... "Rhythmically, there's a new motion. This record touches you".

Teen Dream is the sound of a band bursting at its creative seams. It is without question more expansive and moving than anything they have shared before.

What started out as a youngsters’ combo in 1993 struck the worldwide music scene in 1997 with a debut that truly lived up to its name – “Something  Wild”. From then on, the evolution of Finnish five-piece CHILDREN OF BODOM has grown into one huge success story, unmatched by any other up-and-coming Scandinavian metal export to date. Followed up by 1999’s “Hatebreeder” and the Millennium release “Follow The Reaper”, COB’s first three albums on Nuclear Blast Records set new standards in the field of brutal and fast but yet highly melodic heavy music, especially impressing with front man Alexi Laiho’s incredible versatility and jaw-dropping skills, who’s been elected “best metal guitarist” by the readers of renowned “Guitar World” magazin in the past, among countless other decorations. Four more smash records – namely “Hate Crew Deathroll” (2003), “Are You Dead Yet?” (2005),  “Blooddrunk” (2008) and “Relentless Reckless Forever” (2011) – gradually let more modern influences flow into the Finn’s style, without ever neglecting their trademark mixture of rough vocals, shredding riff attacks and catchy keys. A formula for success that led to consecutive #1 chart entries in Finland for their last four records as well as to gold status for their entire discography, apart from “Follow The Reaper” that even achieved platinum (!) status! Moreover, CHILDREN OF BODOM have made the world’s biggest stages their second home over the years, playing the most important festivals such as the Wacken:Open:Air, Hellfest, Graspop, Loud Park Festival and Bloodstock on a regular basis and attaining a tremendous following all around the globe.

2013 sees the Hatecrew returning home to Nuclear Blast with the 8th studio album of their career. Recorded and produced by the band in their in-house studio in Helsinki as well as in Petrax Studio, Hollola, with support from Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN), “Halo Of Blood” distinctly seizes on the early works’ sense of melody and coarseness, while putting it all into a modern-day soundscape and venturing quite a few new steps, such as presenting both the band’s fastest and slowest song ever. Mastermind Alexi Laiho states: “Believe it or not, but we’ve managed to keep it fresh and new while still maintaining the elements that make COB’s sound recognizable.
Lyric-wise, `Halo Of Blood´ comprises topics we’ve never dealt with before.”

Rounded off by a classic COB cover artwork created by Sami Saramäki, “Halo Of Blood” bares the band’s roots and lets them sprout into 10 timeless anthems of sheer magnificence. As Laiho promises: “Whether you enjoy it with a beer or a glass of water, I’m sure you’ll have a blast!” Obey the reaper!

The ‘Brother’ Tour follows the release of Boyzone’s No.1 Album of the same name, an album that saw the four Boyz coming together to pay very special tribute to their friend, companion, wingman and brother; Steo.

The Album is one that the Band is extremely proud of.  Upbeat and infectious tracks like the new single ‘Love Is A Hurricane’ (written by New Radicals front man, Gregg Alexander) sit alongside the soulful ‘Let Your Wall Fall Down’ and of course the enchanting single ‘Gave It All Away’ which was written by Mika and features some of the last vocals that Stephen ever recorded.

With their No.1 Album and a new tour scheduled for 2011, a new chapter now begins on the Boyzone journey after the heart-breaking and life-changing experience of losing Stephen Gately – a journey that will celebrate all that was, and more importantly, what is still to come.
